Marla Spence joined ABC 7 in December 2017 as the morning reporter for Good Morning Suncoast.
Prior to joining the team, she was the morning reporter for WTVM News Leader 9 in Columbus, Georgia. That's where she covered a wide variety of stories from veteran home makeovers to homicides.
Marla is originally from Miami. She attributes her ability to connect with people of all backgrounds and ages due to her diverse upbringing in South Florida.
Her passion for broadcasting started at the age of 12, as a Radio Disney Kid-Caster.
Out of hundreds of kids and pre-teens, Marla earned the competitive position that gave her the opportunity to cover movie premieres and concerts for the local Radio Disney station.
This experienced propelled Marla's interest in broadcasting.
She went on to pursue a degree in broadcast communication at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL.
During her time there, she was the university's reporter and community service coordinator.
After graduating, Marla was offered a position at her internship with Cox Media Group Miami.
Marla is also a former pageant queen and preliminary titleholder in the Miss USA, and Miss America Organization. She had the privilege to hold the titles of Miss South Florida, Miss Brickell, and Miss Overtown. Competing helped Marla to pay for portions of her college education through college scholarships.
It also helped her become an ambassador for water safety and drowning prevention, a cause she holds close to her heart due to the tragic loss of her sister.
Marla and her college sweet heart/husband are happy to call Florida home once again.
